Q3 2019 Running Update

This update is not a rosy as the first two from March and July respectively. The last couple weeks of July, I started experiencing a lot of pain after runs. Eventually the pain was too much to run at all. A visit to the ortho doc confirmed that I was injured. I’m still working with a PT on recovery. It has been over eight weeks without any running, and I’m definitely going a bit nuts. In the meantime, cycling does not cause any pain or aggravate the injury. So I’m trying to supplement my cardio with some miles on the bike to stay in shape. Unfortunately, I find that I have to do about 4x as many miles to burn the same amount of calories as running. It is super time consuming. Cycling is definitely a lot more fun though. So I’m taking the good with the bad.

I have logged 818 running miles on the year. So, to the extent that I can start running again by November 1, it is possible that I can still hit my 1000 mile goal for the year. Fingers crossed.

Indian Summer

It is the last week of September, but you wouldn’t know it based on the temperature in NYC. We took advantage of the uncharacteristically warm weather and did some casual cycling through some parts of Brooklyn that were previously lesser known to us. Made it back to G-point in time for golden hour and a fantastic sunset.

Blossoms

Had Good Friday off and went for another ride. Weather was still a bit brisk. But the blossoms were out.

Spring?

It’s still a little chilly to feel like proper spring weather. But that didn’t stop us from from dusting off the bikes and pedaling up the West side. Hoping to be doing much more of this soon. Here is a little photo triptych from the ride.

Staying Sane

Welp, B is in China. I’m going a little nuts w/o her here. Have tried very hard to keep myself busy. Weekend is not even over yet. Put together this little gem tho. I slapped a gopro onto the underside of Trixie’s handlebars for a Saturday ride across the Brooklyn Bridge. Apologies for my fat face starting into the lens in the beginning. It gets “good” if you can make it past the elevator. If you have 5 spare mins, enjoy.

SRAM’s Super Bike Friendly Office in Chi Town

Even thought I don’t consider myself a hardcore cyclist (I don’t own any spandex), I do appreciate the culture. Of course there are a lot of aspects about it that can rub people the wrong way. Despite one’s opinion about cycling culture, I think that most could agree that SRAM’s office in Chicago (by Perkins + Will) looks like a pretty amazing space to work. It seems to be a true marriage of form and function. Video tour below, or more looks here.
