Motorcycle season can be relatively short in the Catskills. There are some folks who are much more hardcore than I who have been riding since early April. We sneaked in one lap around the Pepacton in late April on an unseasonably warm evening. But it was quick, with no real stops and we both got pretty cold. About half of the weekends that I have spent in NY this summer have been rained out. This weekend fell squarely into the rainy category. I meant to ride Saturday AM, but Thor had other ideas. Sunday evening was equally soggy. Despite the precipitation, BK Bowl hosted the above referenced classic bike exhibit. I went. I took my cam and got some pics, despite the weird BK Bowl stage lighting. It’s funny how after only 1.5 years as a resident of Brooklyn, I’m seeing so much overlap at these shows. Whatever. I would gladly peep these bikes again over sitting home watching the rain come down. Here are a couple of snaps from the event-
I stopped by the Indian Larry’s rally in N. Williamsburg on Saturday. There were a lot of really cool custom builds. I snapped a few that I thought were the most eye catching. I’m blown away by the attention to detail that goes into some of these bikes. It is probably because I usually don’t pay attention to non-sport bikes. But I could definitely appreciate the craftsmanship that was employed on these builds.
As with most long-time Ducati fan boys, I wasn’t really into the Diavel when Ducati first added the model to their lineup. And honestly I’m still not into it, or any dragster style of bike. I’m generally not super into street fighters either. Not that the DraXter is trying to be a street fighter, I just mean that they took something beefy and made it more bare-bones (similar to the way that a fighter in most cases used to be a full fairing sport bike). But when I saw these images, I changed my tune a bit. For whatever reason, the styling on this Diavel based concept really does it for me. At first I assumed that the DraXter was just another hyperbolic rendering by a moto aficionado art student of a bike that did not exist outside of the pixels on a monitor. As it turns out, Ducati actually built the concept and showed it at this year’s Motor Bike Expo in Verona. More details over here.
